Kambosos made his pro debut in 2013 at the age of 19. An Australian, WBA-PABA, and WBA Oceania lightweight champion, Kambosos beat Mickey Bey and Lee Selby in ‘19 and ‘20.

Kambosos faced off against Teofimo Lopez in November 2021 for the WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. Kambosos dominated against the young champion, beating him via split decision.

Haney turned pro at 17 after winning seven National titles. Fighting primarily out of Mexico to start his career, Haney won the WBC Youth lightweight title in 2017. Haney won the interim WBC lightweight title in ‘19 against Antonio Moran. Promoted as the champion, Haney has defended the belt four times. His last fight was a unanimous decision win over Joseph Diaz in December.

While the purse for both fighters is unknown at the moment, The Sporting News looks back at previous salaries of both fighters.

According to Essentially Sports, Haney made around $3 million for his fight against Jorge Linares and about $2 million against Yuriorkis Gamboa. Against Teofimo Lopez, Kambosos made around $500,000, plus the PPV bonus. Total Sportal had him earning around $1.2 million in total.

Haney told Fight Hype he is taking less money for the fight against Kambosos. Part of the deal between the two fighters, per Boxing Scene, is that there would be a rematch. That is, if Haney wins, and the rematch would once again take place in Australia. Haney stated he was willing to accept around the same financial package Vasiliy Lomachenko was offered to face Kambosos before that fight got scrapped.
