This isn’t the first time players have found a way to use skills to affect their surroundings in unexpected ways. Another Genshin Impact player recently discovered that it’s possible to apply debuffs to cats, while some of Jean’s skills can yank Dendro slimes right out of the ground.

Apparently, players can use the plunge attacks of Genshin Impact Catalyst users to bounce off the walls of cliffs. Reddit user Ezmankong shared a short video of themself demonstrating how this works. In the video, they’re shown playing as Ningguang in her Orchid’s Evening Gown outfit. The clip begins with them already standing at the edge of a cliff near Huaguang Stone Forest. Ningguang quickly runs forward, jumps off the edge, and glides for a few seconds before activating her plunge attack.
Ningguang transforms into a ball of rapidly falling golden light and rebounds off the side of the cliff below her. This impact sends her flying toward one of the stone columns found in the area. She bounces off the side of it as well before falling straight down and landing in the water below. Ningguang is considered one of the best exploration characters in Genshin Impact, but this seems to be a new way for players to enjoy running around Teyvat as her. Ezmankong jokingly asked if any other players knew how to use this technology to make an in-game pinball machine.
As of writing, it appears that other fans are interested in the potential of playing pinball in Genshin Impact. Several users replied stating that they knew how to get up cliffs in Genshin Impact using a Catalyst character but were surprised to see plunge attacks used in this manner. A number of users shared their own stories of intentionally or accidentally bouncing off cliffs. Another group suggested that a pinball game could make for a good event activity, especially if the Windblume Festival comes back in the future. One user noted that vertical pinball games could be irritating, so a pinball event should feature a portal so that players can quickly return to the beginning of the course.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
