Each Genshin Impact update has its beta phase which usually starts once the preceding patch arrives. The 2.5 beta phase has started the day Genshin Impact update 2.4 has officially launched. The beta usually contains most of the content that players will face once the update hits the live servers. However, a recent tweet by a credible leaker has revealed that a beta tester has been fined $78.000 for leaking footage from the current 2.5 beta phase. Apparently, one of the leaks contained his UID (Unique Identifier) which has allowed miHoYo to track down the account.

Even though miHoYo seems to be against their content being revealed before their official announcement, it’s safe to say that there are also multiple upsides to the leaks. They help generte a lot of hype for new characters even months before they join the playable roster. One of the best examples of this is the popular character Raiden Shogun who still holds the record for being the most pulled character in the game, even though there was almost no official information about her before the banners hit the live servers.

The same can probably be said for the recently announced character Yae Miko, who has been officially confirmed for update 2.5 after being leaked numerous times over the last couple of months. Developer miHoYo has now introduced an interesting pattern of revealing new characters even before the beta arrives, probably because they would be leaked either way on the first day. Since her introduction in two update previews, Yae Miko has become one of the most popular characters in all of Genshin Impact which makes the current publicity surrounding her not as surprising.

Apparently, she will be a five-star Electro Vision holder which is no surprise considering that she’s heavily tied to the region of Inazuma. Yae’s weapon of choice will be the Catalyst and according to multiple leaks, she’s expected to be one of the strongest DPS characters in the game, on par with Ganyu and Xiao.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is currently in development with no confirmed release date.
