A Reddit user was able to play Genshin Impact with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s cover screen, which is roughly two inches wide. The user placed a U.S. nickel coin above the screen to provide a sense of scale while attempting to play Genshin Impact on the small screen. Genshin Impact scales down the user interface to fit the small cover screen, but the screen brightness appears to wash out many of the game’s colors during gameplay.

As u/sogoyu demonstrated in the gameplay video, controls lack responsiveness on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 cover screen. The user attempts to control Genshin Impact character Xiao with little success due to the cluttered UI. Additionally, Genshin Impact does not resume play on the larger screen when the user unfolds the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. According to u/sogoyu, Genshin Impact heats up the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 after prolonged play in the unfolded configuration. While playing through the cover screen, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 appears to use less battery life and the device does not rise in temperature as quickly.
Deeper into the Reddit post, the user compares the cover screen to a Hololive card, which is roughly the size of a standard credit card. The Genshin Impact title menu is shown in the comparison image, but the cover screen’s brightness makes the title menu more difficult to read unlike a standard smartphone screen.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 gameplay video by u/sogoyu shows that Genshin Impact is playable across a variety of mobile hardware in different configurations. However, Genshin Impact is fairly action-oriented, and the cover screen is impractical for such a game. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 cover screen was designed for notifications and apps instead of full-fledged action games.
As more Genshin Impact updates release, the game will demand more performance out of mobile devices in the future. HoYoverse should address potential issues going forward for its mobile player base and work to include features such as controller support in the Android version of Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch version is in development with no confirmed release date.
